Celtic fans have woke up to a bit of a strange transfer story that has come out the blue overnight.

Motherwell’s Liam Donnelly to Celtic.

Where to begin with this?

So we can see the papers brave enough to run the story they are citing reports from Ireland as the basis for the news. From what we can see, there’s only one outlet in Ireland running the story and that’s Belfast Live.

The paper writes: “Celtic are understood to be monitoring Northern Ireland and Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly with a view to a shock move before the end of the January transfer window.”

No source, no quotes, nothing other than Celtic are understood to be monitoring him. They’re certainly right when they say it would be a shock move.

Hardly basis for any sort of hard analysis at this point.

Celtic were in for Motherwell star David Turnbull in the summer but a problem with his medical killed the deal and saw the player heading for a summer op.

Turnbull is still on his way back from injury as a result. It remains to be seen if Celtic could come back in for David a some point.

As for Liam, file it under MEH.
