FORMER Celtic striker John Hartson believes Celtic MUST sell Dedryck Boyata in January if another bid of £7million comes in for the defender.

Hartson, who was talking Celtic at a Ladbrokes Gambling aware campaign was positive about Celtic’s chances of a treble treble but the Welshman think Celtic have to be prepared to let the Belgian go in the winter window.

“If Celtic get a big bid for Boyata, seven or eight million, then he has to go. It’s a no-brainer.” Hartson told the Evening Times.

“They have still got Kris Ajer, Jack Hendry, Jozo Simunovic and Filip Benkovic, so I think it’s a real possibility Boyata could go.”

Not many fans will buy this though. If Celtic were to sell Boyata in January then to see Jack Hendry come in as a potential replacement would be hard to swallow for some.

With injuries to key men without Boyata, the Celtic defence could fall to pieces.

Is it worth keeping the defender until the summer and letting him go for nothing as Celtic look to bag a treble treble?

Rodgers spoke on Saturday about the player’s future and said there was still scope for the World Cup star to sign a new deal but that was between him and the club.

  1. Well if he is going go then lets do this right this time no hard feelings he did stay and lets thank him for being a man and not a silly boy like MD was,we can bring in players any time in the season the time is now,so we do need cover so start looking for a new CH and not a work in progress but a good seasoned pro bring him in now and get him up to speed and one or two new midfielders and a seasoned pro CF plus lets not forget the dead wood we want to move out in January let those players know they can go and put them up for sale and keep them back from rest of squad sell them for what we can get or in some cases give them away for nothing they are no good to have around……..

  2. Why not give him a 7 million pound deal say a 18 month contract with a 20 million buy out cause or 15 with a 20 percent sell on he will be needed for Champions league qualifiers if we get this year and next he will have more than paid his way it’s all down to the big yin and Mr Lawell if he wants to go then punt him January and no hard feelings.
