There was once a time when the thought of Mikey Johnston would excite fans and become a first team regular. As a young boy, his blistering pace and skills would often leave the fans on the edge of their seats, but as he’s grown older, this is no longer the case.

Many envisaged the Scottish youth international growing into a top player for Celtic, but injuries have certainly hampered his chances.

This season has been similar to previous seasons for the winger. Again, injuries have limited the game time that the player has received. Playing just twenty times across all competitions this season, with his last appearance coming against Hibs at home after the winter break in January. He’s appeared on the bench since but failed to play a single minute since.

Being a Mikey Johnston fan, rooting for him to overcome his injuries, I have to admit his time at Celtic must be up. He’s shown no signs of progression and is still struggling with injuries.

It looks like he’ll never be the standard required at Celtic, which is a shame.

The club have signed some wingers in the past year, meaning it’ll be even more challenging for Mikey to get a chance in the first team.

After extending his contract in 2019, he’s under contract with Celtic until the summer of 2025.

For the sake of his future, he should look for a new team. Whether he goes on loan to try to prove his worth or looks for a permanent move to start a fresh, something needs to happen this summer. He can’t afford to waste another year of his career.
