CELTIC have been accused in the past of not preparing for the departure of our top players. Moussa Dembele springs to mind when you look back last summer and with no time left on the clock, the player pushed for his move and Celtic caved.

It left Celtic with two strikers and then one when Leigh Griffiths had to take time away from football. Looking back – it was an absolutely ludicrous position to be in at the time. A club the size of Celtic should always have a plan B or trick up their sleeve when it comes to transfers.

With that in mind, as we see Odsonne Edouard continue to dazzle for the French under 21s, score for us in Europe and generally show his class, we hate to say it but we must start preparing for his eventual departure.

We’re not throwing him out the door, we want Eddy to stay for as long as possible but we know the drill and so does the club.

If we can hold onto the frontman for another 18 months or so it would be fantastic but the reality is we’re going to have a couple of transfer windows where Eddy is the focal point. It’s imperative Celtic make provisions and prepare a list of potential targets should they get an offer they can’t refuse.

Edouard has the potential to break Kieran Tierney’s transfer record fee of £25m – he’s that good. When the player does go it will be for big money, we just don’t want to see Celtic caught cold like they were with Moussa.
