Celtic need reinforcements but there is one position on the pitch where they’re top heavy at the moment and could be doing with offloading someone; goalkeeper.

Joe Hart was signed earlier this window and has become the number one. It leaves Celtic with Scott Bain, Vasilis Barkas and Conor Hazard in the squad.

Quite simply put, one of these men need to be moved on or at least put out on loan for the season.

My vote would be Barkas. The Greek goalie is on a decent contract and Celtic would stand to benefit from a loan move that turned out to be successful.

If Barkas could show something for a loan club that he hasn’t shown at Celtic then the club would be in a better position to sell him on next summer.

To sell or loan a player out there has to be interest and a willingness for the player to move – we’re not sure if these two things exist at present.

Bain is a backup goalkeeper at best or Celtic and could easily play in cup ties like he did with Brendan Rodgers when the Irishman first signed him. But if we’re looking to offload a goalkeeper and Barkas is not for moving – Bain could make way. There would likely be interest from somewhere.

Hazard could also find a loan move before the window and that might be the most practical solution at this point.

Celtic need to look after the pennies at the moment and getting players who will have no baring on the season off the wage bill should be something they look to do in the coming days.

We’ll see what the next five days bring.

  1. A propos of this article, Griffiths needs to leave. He is no use to us.
However, he should not be loaned. This is no use to us.
If Dundee, or any other club wants him, then they need to take him on a contractual basis and negotiate his salary, perhaps with a small fee going to Celtic for the transfer.
