Former Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn has been told to find a new club.
The 26-year-old departed Celtic last summer for Como in a deal worth around £17 million. That brought an end to 18 months in the green and white, making 69 appearances with 24 goals and 18 assists to go along with it.
However, he’s made just 25 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring just once. He was not included in Como’s squad for their opening game of the season as they drew 1-1 at Udinese.
Kuhn netted just once against Torino and made one assist as he struggled to stake his claim for a regular starting spot.
It is unfortunate for the winger, who looked to continue showcasing the form he displayed at Celtic. While there is no talk whatsoever of a return, few would argue should he pull on the Hoops in the future.
Haissem Hassan’s recent arrival has addressed the need for a left-footed right-winger. The Egyptian international has yet to make a start, but has featured twice off the bench against Dundee United and LASK.
He is of a similar profile to Kuhn, whose Champions League exploits under Brendan Rodgers put clubs on alert.
That’s even before mentioning Camilo Duran’s brilliant performance on Tuesday night. While the Colombian prefers a more natural striker’s role, he’s certainly doing well to assure supporters he’s capable of putting in a shift from the right wing.
Kuhn is another example of a player struggling to adapt to pastures new after departing Celtic. But given the fee the club received last summer, it was no surprise that he moved on.
His next move is unknown. A reappearance in Glasgow isn’t likely, but with Celtic on the cusp of Champions League qualification, would they consider asking the question?
