Transfer guru Ekrem Konur has claimed the club have opened talks with Ryan Christie over a new deal to stay at the club.

The journalist who writes for a number of outlets across Europe has revealed the club hope to extend the stay of Ryan beyond the end of this calendar year.

Ryan’s deal runs out half way through the season and it’s been no secret there’s a desire from the midfielder to play down south. However, Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of Ryan who is much more suited to play in a Postecoglou side than a Neil Lennon one.

The Scottish international didn’t have the best of seasons last term but it’s hard to say who did. Given the number of players we’ve lost and the new lads coming in, it would be a good idea to hold onto Ryan for a little longer. If he signed a new one and a half year deal with the club, he could see out this season before potentially leaving in a years time – much like Stuart Armstrong did under Brendan Rodgers.

The flip side of the coin is Ryan is free to talk to anyone and could land a sizeable signing on bonus if he signs on a pre-contract.
