Neil Lennon tied up Nir Bitton on a new contact this week with the player’s current deal running out at the end of the season.

After getting that deal done and dusted, the Celtic manager has turned his attention to a man who will split opinion on whether he should get a new deal or not – Jonny Hayes.

There is some hardcore support for Jonnys continued inclusion in the Celtic team while there are many who believe the player should only be a back-up at most when it comes to the first team squad.

With the Irishman’s deal up next summer, the Celtic gaffer has revealed talks have taken place between the club and Jonny over an extended stay but nothing concrete as of yet.

“We’ve just had tentative talks at the moment but we’ll see how that goes.” Neil Lennon told CelticTV.

“I like him. He’s done really well for me.

“I think he can play a number of positions and he’s very fit and very quick. He’s a good squad player.

“Put it this way, since I’ve come in he’s not let me down.”

Hayes has put in some solid performances, he’s a work horse and that’s why so many people will back him from a new deal. However, would signing off in the summer be the best time for both to part ways?
