It’s being reported by the Sheffield Star that Celtic have been ordered to pay 300k compensation to Sheffield Wednesday for Liam Shaw.

The midfielder was unveiled as a Celtic player on Tuesday afternoon after signing a pre-contract with the Hoops.

However, FIFA have a compensation scheme in place for players who come through a club’s academy who then move on without a formal transfer fee being agreed.

The Star reports the fee is around £300k for Celtic, payable to Sheffield Wednesday.

Celtic and Sheffield Wed are set to play each other in a Friendly in July – Shaw coming up against his former side very quickly after his move.

The game against the English side will be during Ange Postecoglou’s first pre-season in charge. There will be a lot of intrigue surrounding routine friendlies because of the new manager.

Celtic are heading into a sizeable rebuild while battling on four fronts. It’s not going to be an easy season for Ange and the bhoys but if they can get their act together, anything is possible.

  1. Looking forward to the restoration of the natural order next season with Celtic bringing home their title. Liam Shaw will be a good player for us.
