Celtic Players ‘Growing Into Pressure’

Brendan Rodgers believes some of his Celtic players are still learning how to cope with the pressure that comes with representing the club, after their 3–1 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.

The result leaves Celtic eight points behind the league leaders after just nine games, and the manager admitted that his squad are still adapting to the demands of playing for a team expected to win every week.

Rodgers has made no secret of the challenges facing his side this season, a mixture of new signings, young players, and established figures struggling for form. That blend has produced small moments of promise but too many lapses, with costly mistakes again proving decisive in Gorgie.

The Celtic boss spoke about the need for his players to develop belief and composure under pressure. While acknowledging the team’s inconsistency, Rodgers made clear that he still trusts the group to come good as the season progresses.

He praised their attitude in training and urged them to show the same courage on matchdays. But with the gap at the top growing, Celtic will need that progress to happen quickly if they are to stay in the title race.

He said: (TCW), “You always have to believe that (you can become champions), and you always have to have that.

“At Celtic, you’re brought in here to deal with pressure. And, like I said, some of these players are growing into it.

“It’s one you have to grow into very quickly. But I have a good bunch of boys that are, they work hard every day.

“And today, I felt we had a really good opportunity if we played our game and had that courage and belief to play, but we made too many mistakes on and off the ball and didn’t get the result.”

Rodgers’ message was clear, he’s backing his players, but he’s also challenging them. He knows what’s expected at Celtic, and while he’s tried to protect the squad, he also made it clear they need to handle the pressure better. Playing for Celtic always comes with demands, but this team hasn’t yet shown the focus or belief needed to deal with it.

The problem is that time is running out. Hearts are flying, Rangers are improving, and every mistake is starting to matter more. Rodgers says he believes in his players, but belief alone won’t fix the problems or close the gap at the top.

Supporters have heard these words before, and patience is fading fast. Too many simple errors and wasted chances have cost Celtic points, and talk of “learning” doesn’t mean much when the team is falling behind.

The next few weeks will tell a lot. Celtic need to show they can handle the pressure and produce results, or the same issues will keep dragging them further away from where they want to be.
