With the announcement of defender Osaze Urhoghide today, Celtic are keen to strengthen the backline even further.

On Sunday night, RecordSport reported that Celtic had named George Baldock as a top right-back target. It seems that the club will be moving to attempt to get the 28-year-old’s signature.

The Star is reporting that Ange Postecoglou has given the green light for the potential signing and requested that a bid is made. It is reported that the hoops are willing to fork out between £5 to £8 million, but this will not match Sheffield United’s valuation which remains unknown.

Celtic will try to bargain with the club, using the financial implications of the pandemic as well as the relegation of The Blades in the hope that this will push for a bid to be accepted.

It is reassuring to see the club willing to invest money into the team, £8 million is a large amount for a club like Celtic, however, I’m not too keen on the signing.

Baldock was part of a team that finished on 23 points last season while conceding 63 goals. His attacking return wasn’t outstanding either with only 2 assists.
