Celtic came out on top at Ibrox on Sunday, and Danny Rohl’s words came back to haunt him in spectacular fashion.
The Rangers manager has had plenty to say about Celtic in recent weeks, and at times it has come across as patronising. It is the kind of thing we have seen time and again from Rangers managers who end up playing to the gallery.
But if you are going to talk the talk, you need results to back it up.
The German could not beat a struggling Celtic side in the league last weekend, despite leading 2-0 at half-time. The Hoops roared back to make it 2-2 and earned a point.
Even after that, Rohl kept up the swagger and claimed Celtic were not his toughest opponents in the lead-up to the Scottish Cup quarter-final.

That only made Sunday’s result look even worse for Rangers.
Celtic arrived at Ibrox without Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston, Arne Engels and long-term absentee Jota. Then, when the team was announced, there was no Callum McGregor and no Kieran Tierney either.
Rangers huffed and puffed, but they still could not break Celtic down. The game went to penalties, and in the cauldron of Ibrox, Celtic held their nerve and coolly converted in front of the Copland Road end.
It was a phenomenal result.
For Rohl to spend the week insisting Celtic were not the toughest side his team had faced, and that Rangers were the better team, made the outcome even sweeter for the visitors. This injury-hit Celtic side turned up at Ibrox, failed to register a shot on target, and still knocked Rangers out.
