Celtic’s late equaliser at Ibrox had everything, VAR drama, a penalty, two saves, and Reo Hatate refusing to accept “no” as an answer.
But the best way to relive it might be through a short clip that is doing the rounds, Rangers TV’s commentator going from full-throttle delight to deflated resignation in the space of a couple of seconds.
It is a familiar voice to Celtic supporters. “Tom” became a cult figure, not because he was trying to, but because his derby day commentary kept coming back to haunt him.
During the first Brendan Rodgers era and into the Ange Postecoglou years, clips of his emphatic calls would resurface whenever Celtic handed Rangers a heavy doing, and the contrast between the early confidence and the final reality was always the punchline. Famously he was asked what the goalie was doing as Moussa Dembele chipped the ball into the back of the Ibrox net.
These days, he knows the game. He knows every emotional spike gets clipped, posted, and replayed. On Glasgow Derby afternoons he has often sounded more measured, trying to keep the temperature down and his reactions in check.
Not today.
When Celtic were awarded a late penalty, and Jack Butland threw himself at it, the commentator’s restraint went out the window. You can hear the excitement as he calls the initial save, then the rebound, with real gusto in his voice.
Then comes the twist.
Hatate bundles the ball into the net anyway, and the soundtrack changes completely. The voice that was roaring a second earlier suddenly goes flat, the energy drains out of the call, and you can almost feel the realisation landing in real time.

It is a throwback, a small flash of the old Rangers TV clips that Celtic fans used to pass around after big results. The only difference is that this one is condensed into a few seconds, the emotional arc of the day contained in one sequence.
On the pitch, it was a fitting snapshot of the match itself. Rangers had Celtic where they wanted them at half-time, 2-0 up, but could not live with the second-half response.
Celtic were the better side after the break, pushed and pressed, and were unlucky not to be level before the penalty even arrived.
Butland did his best to win the moment. Hatate made sure Celtic made the comeback.
And Tom’s commentary, from full roar to sudden silence, captured it perfectly.
