Celtic have reportedly reignited their interest in Napoli forward Giuseppe Ambrosino as they look to bolster Wilfried Nancy’s attacking options in the January window.
According to CalcioNapoli24, Celtic are back on the trail of the young Italian, who was linked with a summer move to Glasgow.
Back in July there were claims from Italy that Celtic had held ongoing talks with his representatives, though the transfer ultimately never materialised.
This season Ambrosino’s opportunities have been limited. He has logged just 31 minutes across two league appearances for Napoli, and Italian reports at the time suggested the 22‑year‑old was determined to fight for his place rather than move on.
Celtic bowed out of the race for his signature in the summer, but now, with striker options stretched, the club are said to be revisiting the situation.
With Daizen Maeda reportedly open to a move away and Kelechi Iheanacho sidelined again with a fresh hamstring issue, Celtic are short on numbers up front. Goals have been hard to come by, and identifying a strike option in January is a priority if Nancy’s ideas are to be properly delivered.
Yet the prospect of turning back to a target from last summer won’t excite many. Ambrosino’s limited experience and modest output to date don’t scream a marquee signing, and having already been linked to Celtic in the summer, is the manager getting much say in the recruitment?
It’s one thing to scout talent and another to land players who can make an immediate impact in a Celtic shirt. If the club truly want to reinvigorate Nancy’s project, January needs quality as well as numbers. Whether Ambrosino fits that bill remains a matter of debate among supporters.
