Celtic have rejected a surprise approach for Kieran Tierney and have no intention of allowing the left-back to leave just a year after his emotional return to the club.
Tierney rejoined the Hoops last summer and immediately re-established himself as one of the first names on Martin O’Neill’s teamsheet, enjoying an great first season back in Glasgow.
His performances have now attracted attention from Spain.
According to SunSport, Osasuna have made an enquiry about the 29-year-old as they look to strengthen ahead of the new La Liga campaign.
However, Celtic have wasted little time in making their position clear.
The Scottish champions have rebuffed the approach from the club and are expected to take the same stance should any further interest emerge before the transfer window closes.
Tierney is no stranger to Spanish football.
During his time at Arsenal, the Scotland international spent a season on loan at Real Sociedad.
A move back to Spain also appears unlikely from the player’s perspective.
Tierney made no secret of his desire to return to Celtic last year, turning down interest from elsewhere to complete an emotional homecoming.
Having fought so hard to get back to Parkhead, there is little indication he would now be looking for another move after just one season.
Celtic’s determination to keep him also makes perfect sense.
The club are already preparing for the departure of fellow full-back Alistair Johnston, with the Canadian edging closer to a £15 million move to Everton.
Losing both first-choice full-backs in the same transfer window would represent a major blow, something Martin O’Neill will be keen to avoid.
