REPORTS today suggest Celtic have knocked back a loan bid for defender Anthony Ralston from St Mirren.

The buddies are in a relegation dogfight and need reinforcements as a matter of urgency.

However, if reports are accurate, Celtic would be reluctant at this point to let any of their defenders go before they know who’s coming in.

Rodgers has been looking for a right back for quite some time and has yet to land one. If he manages another window without finding a suitable replacement or challenger to Mikael Lustig then it’s likely Ralston will get his chance in the Celtic team before the end of the season.

Mikael is no longer at his best, and his contract runs out at the end of the season, if the Swede gets injured, then Ralston is the man who will step in. He did so during the loss to Ibrox and acquitted himself well in the second half.

If Celtic do manage to land a first team right back star before the end of the window then they might be more receptive to letting the player head out on loan like they did last term with Dundee Utd.
