Celtic released an early Wednesday evening statement letting fans know there would be no opportunity for them to buy tickets for the Ferencvaros away tie.

The Hoops faithful were not allowed inside the stadium when they took on Real Betis in Seville last month, and now they’re locked out of their second away tie.

The Bayer Leverkusen tie is still up in the air, but if Celtic don’t make it to at least third in the group – the game in Germany could be the fans last chance for a proper European away day.

A Celtic statement said: “Celtic Football Club has been informed by Ferencvarosi TC that, due to local rules in Hungary, UK vaccination certificates are not valid for accessing the away match on November 4, 2021.

“In order to provide our supporters with clarity it is important, therefore, that we confirm now that, unfortunately, there will be no match tickets available to Celtic supporters.

“The club are currently awaiting relevant information in relation to the match in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen (November 25) regarding permitted certificates and we will update supporters as soon as possible. Clearly, at this stage we would continue to advise supporters not to arrange any travel.”

Bayer Leverkusen supporters were the first away fans officially through the door at Celtic Park since fans returned to football.

After the joint response group scrapped the red zone we’re likely to see a return to SPFL away fans after the international break.

We all want to see a return for away supporters as soon as possible. Away days in Europe are always special for the Celtic support and it’s the last real hurdle we’re facing to get back to normal on footballing terms.
