Celtic’s 2-1 win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup was enough to secure their place in the next round, but one moment in the second half left fans at Celtic Park in disbelief. Faced with a golden three-on-one chance to put the game to bed, the Hoops somehow managed to make an absolute mess of it, leaving supporters scratching their heads and laughing in equal measure.

The opportunity came with Celtic already ahead, as Adam Idah led the charge towards the Kilmarnock goal, flanked by Maeda and Kuhn either side of him. It should’ve been a simple case of picking the right pass for an easy finish to round off the game. Instead, Idah hesitated, holding onto the ball just a little too long before rolling it to Kuhn, who probably still should have scored but had a tougher shot to get away.

It was a moment that encapsulated Celtic’s day in front of goal and perhaps offered a glimpse into Adam Idah’s current mindset. The striker appeared to hesitate, seemingly caught between passing to a teammate or trying to take the shot himself. With goals hard to come by for Idah in recent weeks, it’s clear he’s desperate to find the back of the net and rebuild his confidence.

Ironically, Celtic fans had a good laugh back in December at Rangers’ expense for a similar moment of madness. In the League Cup final, Rangers found themselves effectively four-on-one against Cameron Carter-Vickers but somehow failed to score.

At the time, Hoops supporters joked endlessly about how they’d managed to botch such a golden opportunity, especially as Rangers went on to lose the match and the trophy. But as Saturday proved, maybe it’s not always as straightforward as it seems.

Celtic certainly weren’t short of chances on the day, and Rodgers’ side could have been out of sight well before Kilmarnock’s first-half equaliser. You get the feeling Celtic have a game coming where everything clicks and a team gets a real doing.
