Celtic’s problems with providing Odsonne Edouard any meaningful backup in the first half of the season means that they have linked with almost every striker under the sun in this transfer window. But one of them who is a genuinely interesting option is Dundee United star, Lawrence Shankland.
Yesterday, Shankland’s strike against Hibernian was his 25th goal of the season. The Scot has been absolutely brilliant throughout this season and is a huge reason why Dundee United are currently 17 points clear at the top of Scottish Championship. Thus, it is no surprise that the Hoops are being linked with the 24-year-old.
But we have seen him fail in the top flight of Scottish football in the past and there are question marks over his ability to cut it at the very highest level. And it is very questionable whether Celtic do actually need another striker at the moment.
They have just bought Patryk Klimala for a hefty sum. And Griffiths’ performance in the game against Partick Thistle is also cause for excitement. Thus bringing in another striker right now could turn out to be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
That seems to be the opinion of the club at this point of time as well. As reported by HITC, Celtic are cooling their interest in the Dundee United man. And it looks like Patryk Klimala is the reason behind it, with the Hoops having already filled their need for a new striker with his signing.
