There’s a long way to go this season and we shouldn’t look too far ahead, but during the international break, it allows us to look into the future and the different sort of transfer permutations down the line.

Whatever happens this season, it’s safe to say the holding pattern we’ve been on will come to an end and there will be a reset.

Players who have been with us for three or four years will likely move on and in the instance of Kristoffer Ajer, the Norwegian will be coming into the last year of his deal.

Milan have spoken publicly of their interest in the Celtic defender [Hearald Sport]; so can we use that to our advantage later down the line?

Celtic value their centre-back highly but even they know it’ll be a struggle to hold onto Ajer after this term. That’s why we should certainly not rule out a player plus cash deal in order to land Diego Laxalt.

If Milan want to land the defender, money plus Laxalt could be the way to go.

That’s if Diego even wants to stay on next season; the player could be one and done as far as Celtic are concerned but you never know.

You don’t see many swap deals nowadays because they become pretty complicated trying to satisfy to sets of parties.

While the interest is still there, we should look at it.
