The Newcastle Chronicle claim Celtic and Arsenal are ‘seriously interested’ in Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman as the player enters the final year of his deal at St James’ Park.

Woodman, who has played in the SPFL with Aberdeen has refused to sign a new deal with the Magpies and is weighing up his options this summer. The club could be tempted to cash in on the player and get some sort of fee for Freddie.

Right now, as the Celtic squad sits today, there wouldn’t be much use for another goalkeeper to come in and join Scott Bain and Craig Gordon in vying for the number one spot but according to the paper, the club have been looking at Woodman.

The Chronicle writes:

The Magpies blocked Woodman’s request to go out on loan last season after he opted against signing a paltry contract offer.

He is out of contract at the end of this season and is likely to consider his options, and there is solid interest from Arsenal and Celtic.

Unless there are plans afoot to move on Craig Gordon then it would appear as maybe someone down south is up to mischief.

Neil Lennon did once get a massive bargain from Newcastle when he landed Fraser Forter for the bhoys back in the day. The record breaking keeper was prominent in Neil Lennon’s first run as Celtic boss.
