CELTIC have been sitting tight for quite a while now on when they are likely to see the fruits of their transfer policy pay-off again when Virgil van Dijk finally makes his next move.

The transfer saga of the summer that ended in a stalemate is about to kick off again and this time Liverpool have company.

While towards the end of the summer window it was only Liverpool that had any real interest in taking Virgil van Dijk away from Southampton, that most certainly isn’t the case now.

The Anfield side believes they’re still in pole position to take the Dutchman away from St Mary’s, however, it would appear they may have to up their already ridiculous bid after Man City came back into the fold.

Pep Guardiola has spoken about the need to have more reinforcements come January as Man City fight for silverware on a number of fronts. John Stones has been ruled out for the rest of the year which has hastened their need for a new defender and the former Celtic player is at the top of their list.

Celtic hold 10-15% sell on fee and depending on what media outlet you listen to, Liverpool’s bid is standing north of £60million.

If the oil-rich side is ready to hijack the move, it can only benefit Celtic.

  1. If the huns aren’t sick of us winning the treble and remaining INVINCIBLE, they get humped by Hamilton, we’re marching onwards to 10 in a row. Seeing us now getting millions must really get right up them. They have NO money,
    NO management,
    NO players
    NO hope.
While they have nothing we get everything. MAGIC
    I love there pain !

  2. Makes absolutely no difference if the money is not used to strengthen now. This appears to be the attitude at Celtic. the board did not allow any investment above about 7-8 million in total during the summer, if that. Were they waiting for this windfall. Celtic need two fit, solid competent CBs to play in Europe. They will cost between 5 and 6 mil each. Will the board authorise this? Probably not. I would imagine spending will go down as well due to off field spending. Tomorrow night will be a painful lesson in how far we are behind in European terms. Not in catching PSG (as if!) but with regards to being anywhere near competitive at CL level. The defence is a problem and needs to be addressed. This costs money, which Celtic have, but will they spend it? Or is beating Sevco enough for them?
