CELTIC now know roughly what their final haul will be for having players participating at this year’s World Cup finals and it’s the largest amount they’ve ever received for a World Cup tournament.

There have been four bhoys who made it to Russia and with every player a club has at the event, the FIFA payout scheme pays roughly £6500 per day per player starting two weeks before the event starts and finishing the round they get knocked out.

This means that two of our bhoys who only played the three group stage games before bowing out collected around £182k for the club.

Mikael Lustig who made it to the quarterfinals with Sweden and lasted two round longer than Rogic and Gamboa amassed the club roughly £245k.

Then there is Boyata who very well could be in the final but will definitely at the very least play on the final weekend in the third-place game with Belgium who stands to make the club £290,500 or thereabouts.

Rogic – £182,000

Gamboa – £182,000

Lustig – £245,000

Boyata – £290,500

Making a total of just under 900k for the full time the players have been away.

While not earth-shattering money, it is the biggest payout Celtic have received for their stars playing in any World Cup before.

However, it’s not without its own costs. Tom Rogic and Gamboa, while knocked out early from the World Cup were given their mandatory two weeks off after their tournament which seems them miss Celtic’s first Champions League qualifier.

Lustig is now on a well-earned break and will likely miss Celtic’s second round ties should the bhoys get through.

Boyata won’t be due back to nearer SPFL kick off time and will miss a lot of the qualifiers due to his participation.
