The lockdown hit in March and by May, Celtic started dropping players from their books at a rapid rate.

Two months without football with no end in sight left Peter Lawwell pushing players out the door in a bid to get the wage bill down.

Three major casualties were Jonny Hayes, Jozo Simunovic and Craig Gordon.

The first two were almost immediately told to find new clubs once the league had been settled. Craig Gordon, on the other hand, was in negotiations with Celtic for quite some time before both parties went their separate ways.

Peter Lawwell wouldn’t agree or negotiate terms with the veteran keeper who ended up signing for his old club Hearts in the Championship.

Now, as last season’s Scottish Cup final is set to get played. Celtic go into the game with two goalkeepers the support aren’t very sure on.

To put it straight, had Craig Gordon signed on for another year, he would be Celtic’s first team goalkeeper right now. As fate has it, he now stands in the way of a fourth consecutive treble, of which he has a lot to do with the first three.

Had Lawwell done a deal with the player which wouldn’t have broken the bank, perhaps Celtic would be in a better place.

I’m not trying to re-write history and I know Craig had his flaws, but there’s no denying both keepers for Celtic this season have not been of a standard even Gordon set.

It could be a tale of two goalkeepers on the day and a mistake made by not the manager, but the CEO could cost us the Scottish Cup.
