Celtic will grab an unexpected UEFA coefficient bonus after Olympiakos were dumped out of the Champions League qualifiers on Wednesday evening.

The Greek side were thrashed 4-0 at home in their second leg against Maccabi Haifa, consigning them to failure.

It’s great news for Celtic, as explained by the ever knowledgable Moravcik67 on social media who explains why the Hoops will be due a bigger coefficient payout.

He wrote: ‘Olympiacos were knocked out of CL qualifying tonight. As they were ranked above us on the 10 year coefficient, the result should mean Celtic get an extra ~£950,000 or so from the coefficient payment.’

The bhoys are already in the group stages of the competition having won the league in Ange Postecoglou’s inaugural season. There will be many Hoops fans who sympathise with the Olympiakos and their fans having suffered so many Champions League qualifier heartache over the past four years.

The extra cash could go towards helping Celtic secure another signing before the window closes. Every little helps and it’s a game of fine margins, we have to make sure the club leave no stone unturned if we want to do anything in Europe this season.
