CELTIC are set to beat a host of English clubs to complete tying the highly-rated teen, Daniel Kelly, down to his first professional contract. [Football Scotland]

The 16-year-old has received the attention of Arsenal’s scouts, with the London club making contact regarding the striker.

Some may be familiar with the name, appearing and scoring for the under-18 side in recent weeks. Celtic is set to convince the player to sign his first professional contract after turning 16 in October last year.

For many years, Celtic has lost some top young talent to clubs down south, some even moving to Germany to join Bayern Munich. Many left because there was no clear pathway to the first team.

Since Ange joined Celtic, the club has hoped to offer its youth players a pathway to the first team. With the B team competing in the Lowland League, some players have impressed and, in turn, got some minutes with the first team. Joey Dawson, Ben Doak and Owen Moffat have experienced this already.

It’s too early to determine if this contributed to Kelly’s decision; however, hopefully, more youngsters will opt to stay at Celtic in the future, knowing there is a route to first-team football for them.
