The Hoops hierarchy has been diligently working through a long list of potential replacements for Ange Postecoglou, who recently departed for Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite links to various other managers surfacing, it is Enzo Maresca who remains a leading candidate for the Celtic manager’s position.

The club is expected to make a formal approach to speak with the 43-year-old once his involvement in tonight’s Champions League final with Inter Milan concludes.

Maresca was recently sought after by Southampton but reportedly informed the club of his intention to remain with Manchester City. Leicester City are also interested in the Italian coach.

Highly rated within the City Football Group, Maresca’s reputation carries weight in the Hoops boardroom, particularly following the successful appointment of Postecoglou.

Nevertheless, appointing Maresca would not be without risk, considering his previous managerial experience. His sole stint as a manager at Parma ended in failure. Appointed in May 2021 on a three-year deal, Maresca struggled to guide the team to success in the second tier of Italian football resulting in his dismissal in November 2021.
