Portuguese publication Jornal de Noticias has reported they expect Celtic star Jota’s future to be away from Benfica and they also believe Celtic will trigger his option to buy.
Celtic fans have been waiting on news about the winger’s future, but it has rightfully been put on hold until the bhoys wrap up the league title.
Jota has been a brilliant loan signing, when it comes to attacking metrics the Portuguese player is either top or thereabouts for the Hoops.
Celtic now know if they win the league, which looks very likely, they will be in the Champions League next season. It means they have a lot of cash coming in over the next 12 months and the carrot for players like Jota to stay and experience the Champions League.
It’s a no brainier for the Celtic board. They negotiated an option to buy that is relatively low for a player of Jota’s standard and if we can get a couple more seasons out of him before selling the Benfica bhoy for a massive profit it’s a win-win.
As always with options to buy, Celtic can trigger the deal but it’s still up to the club and the player to come to an agreement on wages etc.
Let’s hope this one gets over the line.
