CELTIC look set to lose Stuart Armstrong over the next 48-hours to Southampton for a large fee.

However, am I the only one who thinks Celtic should be leveraging Stuart to try and get Fraser Forster back to Celtic Park?

Fraser Forster had a torrid time last season, which we’ve documented over the past couple of months.

The Southampton goalkeeper started the season as number one but struggled like a lot of the team. The Englishman looked bereft of confidence and was eventually dropped after the Saints 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham on boxing day.

Since then, Alex McCarthy has been in goals for the St Mary’s outfit and even won their player of the season.

Fraser now finds himself at a crossroads at the age of 30. Does the 6ft 8″ goalkeeper continue with Southampton where he has a hefty contract until 2022 or does he crave nights like the aforementioned beating of Barcelona?

With Celtic cashing in on Armstrong and having money in the bank, it would make a lot of sense to at least ask the question.

Yes, Celtic have brought in Scott Bain and have Craig Gordon but with the latter at the backend of his career and Bain yet to be properly proven we should always be open to bringing a talent like Forster back – if the opportunity allows.

The comment made by many when you look to re-sign a player ‘We shouldn’t be going backwards’ – what does that even mean?

Fraser was sensational for Celtic and a shot stopper that provided some memorable victories. People will also point out to Forster distribution not being the best, therefore Rodgers won’t touch him. However, the Irishman has shown with Gordon that he’s willing to compromise for a top quality shot-stopper.

If Celtic could twist Southampton’s arm, then why not.

  1. We dnt need a Goalie ffs.Defenders and maybe another mid like McGinn. As long as we Qualify in CL.And get 10 IAR.Just glad that the Armstrong debacle is finally resolved and he is offski. He had no intention of staying,

  2. Gordon cannae kick a ball either, but would prefer a CH and RB before going for a goalie. We’ve got the dosh so PL and BR should be lookinbg to spend it on defenders. HHJ
