CELTIC have signed Luca Connell from Bolton on a four-year deal from Bolton after the English club confirmed they did seek legal advice on Celtic signing the player.

Bolton, currently in administration, tried to find out what they could do to keep Luca at the club with the player only on a youth contract to this point. They were hopeful they could hold onto him but they were told the club were powerless to stop Luca from handing in his notice of termination.

Although disappointed, Bolton have today praised Celtic for their handling of the deal and have also confirmed the club have paid ‘substantially more’ to the cash strapped club than they were obligated to.

“We took legal advice once Luca submitted his notice of termination.” Bolton told Sky Sports News.

“However, the discrepancy in the regulations between England and Scotland meant we had no option but to accept the situation.”

“To their credit, Celtic recognised that and have agreed to pay substantially more than the financial obligations in Luca’s contract.”

Fair play to Celtic for going above and beyond to make the deal happen and compensate Bolton fairly for the situation they find themselves in at the moment.

Luca joins Celtic immediately and will be available for Friendlies and qualifiers coming up.
