LEIGH GRIFFITHS will be bitterly disappointed to miss out on a Scotland Euros place.

The official team was announced today and the Celtic striker had failed to make the grade.

His season with Celtic has been poor. The frontman has rarely been utilised because of his fitness. The former manager Neil Lennon and Leigh got into it during this season when the Irishman insisted the striker wasn’t fit and Leigh claimed he was fit as he was going to be without getting minutes on the field.

When John Kennedy took over at the club, there was no reprieve for Griff. He made cameo appearances here and there and when the last few games came with nothing at stake, John Kennedy continued to leave Leigh on the bench.

It will be a massive reason why Leigh won’t be at the Euros. Some will say he only has himself to blame after turning up to Lennoxtown last year not fit enough to get going.

Speaking about Leigh and other players who didn’t make the cut, Steve Clarke told SunSport there’s still a chance:

“All the boys, Callum Paterson, Lawrence Shankland, Leigh Griffiths, we thank them for their contribution, we don’t forget their contribution.

“If you go back to the penalties in the Serbia game, Leigh Griffiths scored one, Oli McBurnie scored one and Kenny McLean scored one, those three guys have already made a big contribution to the fact we are already in the tournament.

“I haven’t done an official standby list, I have spoken to a few players – quite a few players – and I am using this is my platform to say to players, there are still matches to be played so keep yourself fit and keep yourself ready.”
