Pre-season camps are a time for players to come together as a group and Hoops winger Mikey Johnston has revealed what has been keeping the Hoops side gripped.

At Celtic’s base there is a special entertainment room where players and staff can gather to unwind and relax.

This room includes a large screen which players can gather round to watch television but it doesn’t appear as if there is much debate about what to watch.

“We are always in there watching it, always. Even coaches, I won’t name names,” said Mikey Johnston speaking to Celtic TV.

“All of us are in there. It is a guilty pleasure.”

Whether Love Island tickles Gavin Strachan’s fancy is yet to be revealed but comments like this further emphasise how tight the current group of players are.

It’s a far cry away from players turning up to training already in their gear with a packed lunch during covid times and bonding like this no matter how rotten the tv show might be is important in bringing the group together.

There is a strong culture at the club which has been created by the manager that has allowed new arrivals to feel welcome and part of the ‘rebuild’.

One man who definitely doesn’t sit down to watch the ITV series is Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou who we know likes to give players space and create some sort of distance between.

“No no! He is not watching that!

“It is not a bit of him! Just doing stuff together is good team bonding.

“We usually go in there after dinner as there is all sorts of stuff to do. We are always hanging around together. It is good.”
