Another night and another Celtic staff member has come out and marginalised the Celtic support for their on the record comments.

Darren O’Dea is a youth Celtic coach nowadays but he took time out this evening to talk about the current Celtic situation.

Celtic and Go Radio have entered into a partnership and they’ve obviously allowed Darren on to the station to get his point across.

Darren goes down a pretty astonishing path defending the manager. All sort of credibility is gone in his first line when he knows he tells us he has a dog in the race.

He then questions why Celtic fans are so upset by the last run of ten games where we’ve only won two. The former defender then tells us it should be the past we focus on instead of the present when backing the manager.

The way this interview comes across is very poor if you’re a Celtic fan who has seen and heard enough from club staffers over the past week.

“I’m not going to lie and say I don’t have any loyalty to Neil Lennon or the club.” O’Dea admitted to Go Radio as cited by RecordSport.

“I’m not going to come here, even if I thought they really needed change, and say I would shout from the rooftops, because I wouldn’t. I’m going to patronise people and say I would.

“You talk about statistics, they’ve won two in 10 which is by Celtic’s standards is unacceptable, Neil Lennon’s not trying to defend that either, he’s not saying they are in good form.

“If you want to throw statistics out, they’re potentially about to complete a quadruple Treble, they’ve lost their first domestic cup game in 35, they’ve won nine titles in a row.

“Neil Lennon has been a massive part of all of that. If you want to talk about two wins in 10, how about you talk about the nine years previous to that?

“I don’t really get this two in ten. No one is defending Celtic, their performances, when I say no one I mean the manager and the players.

“They are coming out saying ‘we are in a bad moment’, they are asking for patience, they are asking for the backing of the Celtic support.

“If you want to talk about statistics, they back up that Neil Lennon should still be in a job, not the other way around.”

This further alienates a fan base who are being accused of self-entitlement when they’ve backed the club in one of the most financially challenging times in living memory.

We have seen the team fold into itself since the start of this season, not just the last ten games.

The rap sheet for Lennon’s dismissal has run out of space. Comments like this from Darren do absolutely nothing for anybody, not the club or the fans.

  1. For gods sake, he’s not gonna come out and say what you and your pals are saying, is he ? Ofcourse he’s going to defend him .

  2. So Darren how many points do the previous title wins contribute towards the current season’s points haul? Oh none? That’s right NONE.
I’m fed up listening to Lawell toadies all spinning the same drivel. I suspect the real reason for all the ‘support/backing’ the manager is getting is because Lawell doesn’t know WTF to do about the current situation. Doesn’t know who to get in as a replacement or how to get said person in. So express lets all express ‘confidence’ in the manager, do SFA and hope for the best.

    • No problem with Darren’s comments. How can his credibility be damaged by being honest and up front about who pays his wages?
I don’t think all the Celtic fan base can be said to be “self-entitled” but I do think an aweful lot of the social media site “authors” and “journalists” come across that way .
Shitstirring is maybe an old-fashioned term but I can’t, at the moment, think of a more accurate one.
Do bloggers retain credibility by confusing our fan base – for them that would be anyone who contacts them, with STHs who have made the financial contribution they highlight. How can they demonstrate in an objective manner, who it is they represent?
At least they,ve stopped describing themselves and their fairweather friends as supporters.

      • Authors & journalists, haha , brilliant. That’s what they think they are cos they send out reports & “exclusives “ which they copy from the other media outlets. Only problem is their grammar & spelling is atrocious !
