CRAIG GORDON has the gloves again until at least Scott Bain is injury-free but the goalkeeper still has the desire to fight anyone who wants to be Celtic number one.

When asked at Wednesday’s press conference about speculation linking former Celtic number one Fraser Forster with a move back to the club – Gordon joked about the situation.

“It doesn’t matter who is in here, I want to play. And the only way I can do that is by playing well.” he told CelticTV.

“If he does bring in another goalkeeper, then I’ll need to play very well to make sure I keep my place.

“If I don’t, I’ll have to live with that.

“I’ll happily fight anyone for their place. Not actually fight them! But you know what I mean. Not big Fraser, I wouldn’t fight him for it!

“But joking aside, that’s the mentality I have, no matter what.”

Gordon is now 36 and his current Celtic deal is up in the summer. If he does manage to become Celtic’s number one over the course of the season it’s highly likely Celtic will need to bring in new competition for Scott Bain either in January or next summer.

Forster has been surplus to requirements at Southampton but no official approach has ever been made to bring the player back to Celtic. His wages would be a tremendous stumbling block and there are many fans who just don’t like the club to sign former players.

Right now, Gordon is the man between the sticks and has to be at his best over the next four games with a doubleheader against AIK with domestic outings against Hearts and The Rangers.

  1. I feel Bain has lost the edge he had last season. He’s a good lad, but complacency has crept into his game.
Gordon was excellent and has been waiting on his chance to get back between the sticks. Shipping 4 goals to Cluj was a big problem for Bain. Cluj wasn’t that good a team. He needs a break to revitalise.
Also, too many times we see our defenders playing across the back and enticing the opposition on to us. This has to stop. The defenders have to realise their task is to defend, win the ball and pass it to our midfield who take the ball forward. Broony sometimes plays too deep and is the only avenue for the defender to pass to. Let’s get back to basics, and rid ourselves of the continual lazy back passing!

  2. Looks to me the same as the managerial appointment ,did we look and see who else was available ?
Fraser has not played first team football for how long ?, and what I remember was very poor with the ball at his feet, another question, how long will it take him to get up to speed.
