In what has to be one of the biggest career turnarounds in recent times, Anthony Ralston won his first Scotland cap on Monday night as Steve Clarke’s men beat Denmark 2-0.

Ralston was a very late call up but he was rewarded with the last 8 minutes or so of a pulsating game at Hampden where the team put in an energy zapping shift to beat the Danes.

Scotland’s win means they’ve landed a home tie in the playoffs next year, a pivotal result for the Tartan Army.

We’ve said it many times before but Anthony could have been out the door at Celtic this summer if he hadn’t been our only right back.

Things have transpired to allow the player a second chance. Elhamed moving back to Israel earlier this season due to being home sick, a massive bid for Jeremy Frimpong coming in from Leverkusen in January and Jonjoe Kenny being miserable during his loan spell.

It’s one thing to get a second chance, but you have to have the drive and the talent to make it count, tonight, Anthony gaining his first senior cap completes the turnaround. What makes it even better is he was subbed on for another Celtic academy graduate, Kieran Tierney.

Hopefully the defender can continue to go from strength to strength.
