MIKAEL LUSTIG is desperate to sign another contract extension with Celtic which will see the defender stay at Parkhead beyond this season.

The Swedish international is still a regular in the team but had Celtic’s summer window gone the way Brendan Rodgers would have wanted it, he could already be playing back-up.

Lustig has been at the club since 2012 and has created a real bond between himself and the Celtic support.

There’s no question the fans love him but there is also no question the player’s form has dropped.

The right back could prolong his career by becoming a second choice option for Celtic and come in when Brendan Rodgers needs him.

However, if the club and player can’t strike a deal which will suit all then Mikael already has his Plan B and has told the media he will head back to play in his homeland of Sweden.

“I have always said I love this club and I love Glasgow but I am 100% sure I am going to move back to Sweden one day.” He told Record Sport.

“We will see when that happens.”

Lustig will most likely lead the players out as Captain in Norway if Scott Brown is still absent. Plenty of time for the star to leave a lasting legacy.
