MATT O’RILEY has always spoke open and honestly since coming to Celtic. The midfielder hasn’t even been at the club a year and already the interest in the former MK Dons man is ramping up.

O’Riley has shown himself to be a very classy player who can really be an engine for an attacking side.

Celtic plucking him from the lower leagues of England was an absolute steal. During the summer, there were reports of some EPL clubs keeping tabs on Matt. Nothing came of it in the end and Matt was clear his job is at Celtic, for the moment.

Speaking to Danish publication Tipbladet, Matt revealed Newcastle were also showing interest in him, but nothing formal came in.

“I know that Leicester showed a lot of interest in me and I think Newcastle were there too. But it didn’t matter that any of them made an offer. If there is no offer, then it is not very concrete in my head.”

Newcastle are building a squad that hopes to begin challenging for the top four and the EPL title itself in the coming years. They have money to throw around and could offer the sort of cash Celtic couldn’t and wouldn’t turn down.

Matt has made it clear he’s happy and delighted to be at Celtic winning trophies, playing in the Champions League and in front of our support. However, it’s clear the midfielder has the ambition to head to the Premier League at some point.

Right now, we have to enjoy all the players we have at the club. Players like Jota, Matt, Josip, Kyogo, the list goes on. Let’s not fret about what’s in the future,
