Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley was left delighted, along with the Danish side of his family, after he received a call-up to the Denmark u21s squad last week ahead of this month’s international break.

It has been an incredible few months for the London born midfielder after making a move to Glasgow from MK Dons during the January transfer window.

It has certainly worked out for all parties, though, with the Celtic support loving what O’Riley brings in the middle of the park for Ange Postecoglou’s side, alongside his teammates on a weekly basis.

His form has also led to the interest and call-up for the Danish u21s squad, which has left one side of his family absolutely delighted as he gets set to pull on the red of his nation.

“My mum was delighted,” he said. as quoted by the Scotsman.

“I am in a Facebook messenger and WhatsApp group with the Danish side of my family, and they were obviously buzzing with it. They haven’t watched someone in the family play for Denmark, so they think it is so cool.

“I am excited for the football, but also to get over and see them all because I haven’t actually seen that side of my family for a long time because of the covid situation.”

There is no doubt this is only the beginning for O’Riley in not only his Celtic career but also his long-term international career with Denmark, who have proved to be a good side in recent years, reaching the semi-finals of the Euros last summer.

His Celtic form has helped gain that international recognition, which is obviously a good sign for players potentially joining in the future, showing the sort of impact a move to join the club can do for you.
