Darnel Johnson has hit back at the suggestion he tried to hurt Emilio Izaguirre after the Hibs player’s challenge saw the Honduran be stretchered off during Celtic’s 2-0 win on Wednesday evening.

The on-loan Leicester defender went in with his studs and put a significant amount of weight down on Izzy’s ankle as they both went for the ball. The Celtic defender was in tears and obviously worried something had broke.

Johnson revealed it was Emilio who greeted him after the game to let the Hibs defender know there were no hard feelings.

Posting on social media, the Hibs player said: I try always to challenge fairly. Respect to Emilio Izaguirre for greeting me after the match. True professional.”

Darnel made his debut for Hibs against Celtic and caused a bit more uproar when he used the picture of him going in on Izaguirre on his Instagram page to chronicle his debut.

Thankfully, the Celtic defender did not suffer a break and it shows you how much class Izzy has to greet the Hibs star after the challenge. There’s no word yet if the Honduran will be okay to play in Sunday’s Scottish Cup.

  1. Players making statements like that embarrass themselves. Don’t treat us like idiots! That kind of tackle is deliberate and a statement that the intent is simple. To break a leg. No ifs ands or buts. It was a disgraceful tackle that you wouldn’t see from immature schoolkids, never mind good professionals. Darnell, you are a talented player with a chip on your shoulder. Don’t treat uslike idiots. You suckered the ref, but not the fans.
