GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS has revealed the team have been told the Conference League is ‘really important’ as they aim to win the competition.

The Greek striker joins Ange Postecoglou and Greg Taylor, who publicly stated that they wish to go deep into the competition.

Celtic start their Conference League adventure on Thursday night, Bodo/Glimt, their opponents. The hoops will play the side from the arctic circle a week before travelling there.

Speaking on Wednesday, the player admitted that the team were taking this competition seriously, treating it as they would treat the Champions and Europa League. [Celtic TV]

“It is one of our targets, it is really important,

Of course, it is a new competition that didn’t exist in past years.

It is something new but this is a European game for us, it is the same as if we play in the Europa League or Champions League.

It is a big night for us and for the fans and we will try to make them happy again.

Of course we can go as deep as possible in this competition. I don’t see why we can’t dream big – this squad is made to dream big.”

Giakoumakis ends it interestingly, “this squad is made to dream big”. Postecoglou has installed a winning mentality into these players, and in return, the players are believing in him.

This is important for the European adventure Ange is hoping to embark on and domestically. It goes without saying if the team win every match until the end of the season, they are the champions.
