It what was a disappointing season for Callum McGregor last term, however, his new boss Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for Celtics number 42 at Lennoxtown this week.

After his compulsory isolation after flying in from Japan, Postecoglou watched Scotland’s goalless draw at Wembley. McGregor started the game against England and played very well.

The Scottish international then scored in Scotland’s final group stage game against Croatia. To progress to the next round Scotland would have to secure 3 points. 1-0 down, Scotland’s number 8 struck the ball from outside the box and scored his first goal for his country. Scotland ended up losing 3-1 resulting in the national team packing their bags.

Since arriving at Lennoxtown yesterday, the Greek-Aussie has been busy meeting the players and coaching staff. Ange also had the chance to speak to Celtic TV where he praised Callum McGregor. Speaking to CelticTV, this is what Ange Postecoglou said;

“Callum was outstanding. I watched the England v Scotland game live and he was great that night.

“He put in another great performance [against Croatia] and all the lads will have had a positive experience.
“I know it didn’t end up being fantastic but just being part of a major tournament will leave them full of confidence.”

This will give Callum McGregor a boost heading into next season. He will likely be made captain of the side after the departure of Scott Brown.

Celtic are set to welcome 5 Scotland Internationals back before pre-season friendlies commence in two weeks. Jack Hendry who is also away with Scotland has reportedly completed a move to K.V. Oostende after the Belgian club took up the option to buy the defender after a season-long loan. This has yet to be confirmed by either club at this point.

  1. That don’t sound good, mcgregor was useless in all three games, just like his CELTIC performances last season, hardly made a tackle or forward pass, at fault for Croatias first and third goals not marking.Never seen a player regress so much in such a short time.
