LEIGH GRIFFITHS signed a new deal with the club on July 1 bringing an end to the speculation around the striker’s immediate future. It’s been given a mixed response among the support.

Celtic opted NOT to trigger the year extension on Leigh’s current contract that would have seen the player hold the same wage as last season with a slight incremental rise.

Instead, the club and Leigh’s reps got around a table to thrash out a new deal that would suit all parties. SunSport reports the frontman has indeed taken a wage cut and will play on reduced terms for the 21/22 season.

Leigh believes he has something to prove and after the frustration of last season and has taken the cut to ensure he has the opportunity to get back to his best.

Celtic are going through a major transition – there’s every chance this will be the striker’s last contract with the club.

Leigh will be part of the squad that heads down south next week to play in three friendlies. Odsonne Edouard is still in the squad and will he continue to start as long as he remains at Celtic?
