GREG TAYLOR has been forced to defend himself against accusations of being a cheat after Jim Goodwin claimed he dived to win a penalty midweek against St Mirren.

The bhoys ran out 4-0 winners and Taylor won the penalty in the second half which set up their three minute salvo which put them out of sight.

After the game, the St Mirren boss branded it a dive and in his press conference at the weekend, the former Celtic academy player doubled down on the accusation.

Taylor was asked about the incident and admitted he was disappointed the St Mirren boss chose to target him for whatever reason.

Taylor believes the manager may just be hurt in the manner in which the second half got away from them during their loss.

However, the defender 100% refutes the accusation he took a dive and made it clear he was not the kind of player to go down easily.

It’s incredible the player has felt the need to come out and defend himself at all. It was a clear penalty and Jim should know better than to continue his accusatory behaviour.

Speaking about Goodwin’s comments, Greg Taylor told SunSport: “It’s not true and I was disappointed because there was more than one contact in the move.”

“I’m not someone who would go down easy and unfortunately he’s felt the need to comment.

“I’ve never been accused of that in the past. Does it hurt? No, if it’s not true.

“He was maybe hurting as they had lost the game, I don’t know. You’d need to ask Jim that. It’s certainly something that I couldn’t be accused of. I don’t want to label it as anything, it was Jim’s words.

“He felt the need to speak out on it and certainly I didn’t believe that to be the case and I don’t think many others did. It is what it is.

“It was a foul, it was a penalty, so I’ll draw a line under it now and hopefully I won’t speak about it again.

It appears Taylor is the more grown up person in this scenario.

Celtic won 2-1 away to St Johnstone on Sunday, and for the first time in a few games, there appears to be no controversy over the game.
