The season is finished now and Celtic can now properly look to next season and what the squad may look like.

There are a few bhoys out of contract this summer and we’re yet to hear if any of them will be staying on.

Calvin Miller seems destined to leave the club and Craig Gordon seems to have made his peace with going too.

One man who is in limbo is Jonny Hayes. Not every Celtic fan’s cup of tea, but the player was used a lot as a utility man last season under Neil Lennon. He came on as a sub so often, there are running jokes about Neil Lennon bringing the Irishman on.

Jonny gives you grit and dig and will always give you 100% when called upon. Is that enough to give him a new deal?

The midfielder’s contract is just about up and unless Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell intervene, Jonny will leave on a free.

  1. Not the greatest but a versatile utility player like Hayes is handy to keep around. Isn’t it a better idea to pay one slightly sub-par bench-warmer who can play in several positions than to pay several sub-par players who only play one position and likely won’t even make the bench? Especially given the strain placed on finances currently?
