STEPHEN WELSH has pulled up injured in tonight’s Scotland Under 21 match against Belgium in which the scots lost 2-0 which could leave Ange with a shortage of defenders for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Welsh pulled up injured after chasing the ball that was played in behind. After initially sitting down, Welsh got back to his feet and tried to play it off, however, a limp was noticeable and he was unable to carry on.

The defender then passed his armband on and hobbled off as he was replaced by Celtic’s Adam Montgomery. Just after his departure, Belgium doubled their lead.

This is troubling news for Ange Postecoglou and indeed the Celtic fans. With Starfelt touch and go and Jullien not expected back until later this month, Ange faces a shortage of central defenders if Welsh has picked up an injury that will see him ruled out of this weekend’s semi-final.

The suitable replacement will likely see Nir Bitton drop back into the defence, despite playing in the middle of the park in recent times.

All will be hoping that it is just a knock and that Welsh can shake it off in time for Saturday.

  1. It is a pity he won’t be fit for Saturday. I would like to see him getting another run in the team. He was playing well earlier in the season. The papers seem to be alking St Johnstone up this week, wishful thinking?, maybe time for Celtic to hand out a hammering. I think it is very important that we win this trophy. It will set us up for the rest of the season. A nice 5-0 battering will get us on our way.
