AC Milan technical director and football legend Paolo Maldini has confirmed the Italian club are interested in Celtic defender, Kristoffer Ajer and are weighing up their options.

The Norwegian has been linked with a move away from Celtic Park since March and the speculation doesn’t appear to be going away as the window draws to the close.

Speaking out about a potential move for the Celtic star, Maldini admitted his names there but played it cool saying there were a number of options.

“Our biggest need is a central defender.” Told SunSport.

“Nikola Milenkovic and Ajer could be part of the names being evaluated.

“But they are not the only ones and they are not the ones on whom we are working.

“We have an idea of how to build the team. We also look at the budget and the amount of wages.”

Ajer hasn’t been at his best for Celtic in the games he has played this year. He is, however, still a big part of the team. If Celtic do get what they want for him then he’ll be off, leaving the club with a short time to find a replacement.

The defender came in as a very young player and had to earn the right to be in the first team; even going via Kilmarnock on loan and bulking up to make sure he could make an impact. It’s a shame as soon as he’s become a proper first team player he has decided he wants a move.
