Speaking to Swedish publication Aftonbladet, Mikael Lustig has opened up about Celtic’s search for a new right back.

It has been no secret the club has made that position a priority to fill but with a week to go in the window, they are no closer to naming a new right back.

Lustig has been Celtic’s number one right back for a long time now, but as the player starts to slow down, it’s imperative the club replace the Swede with quality. The defender understands why the club may be chasing a new man for his position but is adamant that doesn’t mean he’s going anywhere anytime soon.

Speaking to Aftonbladet as cited by RecordSport, the Celtic star had this to say:

“If Celtic are looking for a new right back I have no problem whatsoever with that. They have to fix that.

“I have a dialogue with Brendan Rodgers and the club. Both me and the other right-back Cristian Gamboa’s contract ends this summer.

“So I will see about whether I will stay or go somewhere else. We have a good dialogue and I know what the manager wants. I still have a few months left of my contract and there’s plenty of time left in this transfer window too.”

Lustig should find out soon if the bhoys want to keep him beyond the summer. The player could still do a job for the club even if he wasn’t the number one choice right back any longer.

Celtic fans are desperate to see some movement in that area of the pitch.

  1. It would be a great move to bring in a new younger RB and Lustig on a new 18 month deal at half wages and can be used as cover next season that would be the best move for every one a new RB and a top player who can play games when at his best but mostly used as back up,do this Celtic….sign them up…
