Stephen Welsh was on media duties today as Celtic welcomed fan media to a zoom press conference with the young defender.

Stephen took his chance when he got it last season when Shane Duffy was floundering and stayed in the side for the remainder of the season.

As he gets ready to start a new season, the academy star is excited about the prospect of working under the new manager.

Admittedly, he hasn’t spoken to Ange Postecoglou yet but he was paying close attention to the manager’s first interview when he was unveiled.

“No, I’ve not spoken to the new manager yet, but I’m going off his interview, when he first joined.” Welsh told CeltsAreHere.com.

“It’s very promising he mentioned he likes to bring academy players through into first team so I think all the academy boys looking at that. It’s a good chance to give a good impression in pre-season and start well.

“I’m quite excited to get back in and going again as I said it’s like a fresh start for everyone to to go impress a new manager.

“I think the way he plays football is very attacking. We’ll need to come back very fit, because I think that’s the way he plays

“I am very much looking forward to it and hopefully we can get off to a good start in pre-season with the three games that we’ve got over in Wales.”

Welsh will be looking to battle it out with who comes in next season and look to keep his place as a new Celtic team takes shape.

It will be unlikely Stephen will pair with Kristoffer Ajer again unless a move to take the Norwegian away from the club stalls this summer.

Welsh signed a new deal recently and he seems focused on the task ahead. He’s not had a long break after playing some of the post season with Scotland under 21s. The centre back is ready to get to work at Lennoxtown next week and up his game ahead of the new campaign.
