During today’s press conference, ahead of tomorrow’s game against Livingston, midfielder Callum McGregor was put in the firing line and asked for his thoughts on the message from Peter Lawwell to Celtic fans earlier in the week.

Speaking on the club’s official YouTube channel McGregor was asked for about the Hoops Chief executive’s message and gave his say on the controversial message which received heavy criticism across the board from Celtic fans.

“I think in terms of actual performance, I think he was more talking along those lines in terms of having the fans and having the full stadium to roar the team on. Maybe in that sense, he means more in terms of performance.

“I think every club in the world has been affected financially with it and some more than others. It’s a really difficult world we are living in just now. I think we just have to be as positive as we can, everyone try and help each other and just a general message of trying to help each other get through this because it’s such an unprecedented time.

“Now we need each other more than ever, and I’m talking about humanity in that sense as well. I think the further we go into this everyone has been affected, some more than others. The comments, I think it’s more in terms of performance than other things.”

After being thrown into a tough position, McGregor spoke professionally as always.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that the Scotland international didn’t come out and disagree with the points made as it would completely contradict anything within the club in recent days and create even more drama which is unneeded at this stage.

The message from Lawwell was too little, too late. The apology was needed much sooner and after two days of silence, it finally came.

A lot of what was said in this message was also heartily criticised with Lawwell trying to justify the reasoning for the Dubai trip.
