CELTIC are set to play in the UEFA Conference League for the first time on Thursday night, taking on Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt.

The newly founded third tier of European football is arguably Celtic’s best chance of lifting a European Cup. Dropping down from the Europa League, the Bhoys are looking to go the full distance and challenge in the latter stages of the competition.

Speaking to Celtic’s website, Greg Taylor revealed he had ‘ambitions’ to go as far as possible in the Conference League.

With this being a new tournament we have the opportunity to do something that no one else has done before.

We want to have a good run and to do that we will need to put in a top performance tonight.

When you get to the knockout rounds of Europe then the teams are all of a similar level. Regardless of who you play, it will be really difficult and tonight is no different.

It is great to see our players believe they can go the full distance, the asperation shows a great mentality, but it is also realistic.

Celtic were drawn a really tough group in the Europa League, but hopefully, the fans will see it as a blessing in disguise in May while the team takes to the pitch in Albania.

There are a few matches to get through before then, with the possibility of top opponents going toe-to-toe against the hoops.
